Final blog

The first semester has finally come to an end. It has certainly been a semester of learning and adjusting to what college will be like for the next 3 years. I believe I learned more in this semester then I learned in a whole year of high school. Not only have I learned a lot about school but also about me and how I had to and will continue to have to adjust my ways in order to be a successful college student.
I have learned so many things that I can’t name them all but the biggest thing I have learned to do is use better time management in college. Time management is no joke in college, if your plan is to be successful that is. I have always been that kid throughout high school to not really care about assignments and push them off to the last second. Now that I’m in college that doesn’t work, there’s not enough time in the day to get everything done definitely if it’s a college assignment. College is taken very serious and teachers can tell if you hold off an assignment all the way to the last minute. That is probably the biggest adjustment I have made since I have entered and it is not an easy adjustment by any means. There are many distractions that take place at college but the thing I realized is that these things don’t go away they go on every day so it’s best to just get your work done then enjoy the extracurricular activities that go on so you’re not stressing to get a giant assignment done on time.
Learning how to be a successful time manager was very tough for me. Main reason why, I’m a college athlete my schedule is crazy. I am on the southern football team and we have practices and lifts. Everyday practices go from 3-6 besides Monday that would be our day off. It got really tough at times this semester where I would find myself so overwhelmed with football that I just couldn’t handle the school work. As time went on I learned to handle things more proper and got into a solid routine. My routine would be going to class then taking a pre practice nap. After that I’d practice then go to study hall and bang out as much home work as possible. Once study hall ended I would go back to my room and continue to work. Truthfully though, there would be weeks where I wouldn’t have to follow this exact routine. No practice Mondays is when I would take care of most of my work. With all that time on my hand and not having to worry about a meeting or making it to practice on time I found that I was able to accomplish a lot more. After establishing this solid routine I started to find college to go a lot more smoothly so I highly suggest students to get a good routine in place it helps out a lot, definitely if you’re a college athlete.
To conclude this semester has been quite the eye opener it made me realize what I have gotten myself into entering college. If you don’t get what I mean by this I mean that college is very difficult and it is not all about partying and having a good time it’s about growing up and where you plan to be in the future. Both of those two things are a choice though you can screw off and waste your money or your parents money on partying and screwing off or you can take college in a more serious manner and possibly someday find yourself making a lot of money if you dedicate yourself and put in the work to get you there, but at the end of the day it’s all about how well you managed your time and that is biggest thing I have learned this first semester.

video project 3

Now that I have more experience with making video projects I believe this is my best one. I chose to do my project on college distractions. I felt this was a great topic in general because there are so many things in college that can distract you from being a successful student.  After two video projects I kind of got a better understanding on how to make a good video that keeps the interest of the viewers so I hope you find my video enjoyable.

Summing up Creativity

After reading this book I have learned that Twyla Tharp and I have very similar perspectives on creativity. It’s obvious she is very creative and has benefited from it. It is important to know how to be creative and how to use it because being creative makes you successful. Creativity can be defined in various ways but at the end they all are very similar. Creativity is going above and beyond using ideas that others wouldn’t that you came up with yourself. It is important to be creative, without creativity we would live in a simple world where everything is boring. It’s those who are creative that make this world interesting. As people get older it has been proven that their creativity fades away. This is not good and there’s no exact reason why but it’s possible that it could be because life gets more serious and you start to grow up. Its okay to grow up but those who lose their creativity lose the thrill in life. It is proven that kids have the most creativity do to the fact that they don’t have to follow a routine like an adult has too. What we need to do is change this and not go by routine. That why me as an individual like to do things on my own and figure things out on my own because I believe the most creative people are individuals that work by themselves. Without creative people we would probably live in a very simple society so be thankful for those who are creative because that’s what is keeping our world at the cutting edge.

Campus safari

This week I decided to go to another workshop based on how to write an essay. Essay tests become more common in college and are very important to know how to do. Luckily I have yet to have taken a essay test but now that I have learned on how to write one as well as some tips on how to make it best. Now that I have learned tips and also the right way to respond to an essay test I feel more prepared for the future. One tip that I found most helpful that the professor adressed was to read the question and think of three main topics on what you can talk about. The professor said that 3 main things is a great way of answering an essay question if you want to go over and beyond try for four. The most intresting thing I learned in this work shop was that before responding to an essay question you should always give your self some time to develope what you plan to write on a seperate pieve of paper. This is very helpful because one you wont forget what your trying to talk about and two if you dont finish your essay on time atleast the professor can get an understanding on where you were going with your responce by looking at the outline.

Twyla Tharpe Exercise

I chose to do exercise seven in chapter five. It is called name that muse. There are nine muse’s and they represent the daughters of Zeus and Mnemosyne. The nine muse’s are; Calliope, Clio, Erato, Euterpe, melpomene, Polyhymnia, Terpsichore, Thalia, and Urania. The point of this exercise is to put an image to each name so that you can remember its meaning. At first I had to think of how I should go with this exercise and this is what I came up with. Calliope means epic poetry when looking over this word I thought what in this word will remind me of epic and I thought hey it has the word “Cali” in it so that’s how I remember that one. Clio means history so i thought of a historical thing and I came up with Cleopatra which is a very historical name. For Erato which means love poetry gave me the hard time trying to figure out how I can connect the word but then I realized that Erato has every letter the word Heart has in it besides the H so that’s how I memorize that one. Euterpe is definitely that one word where I just have no image or trick to memorize the meaning of Euterpe is music. Melpomene means problem as soon as I saw this word I memorized it because it basically has the word help in it. Polyhymnia was a very quick muse to remember it means sacred song, so to remember it I thought of polytheism which means one god so that’s the sacred part and then it has hymn in it which reminds me of the word rhyme and that’s where I get the song part from. Terpsichore means choral song this was pretty simple because the first image that came to mind was chorus which is music. The muse Thalia gave me a difficult time though. Its meaning is comedy and truthfully I really couldn’t connect this word to anything. The last of the nine muse’s is possibly the easiest to remember its Urania meaning astronomy and obviously the first thing you think of when you hear that name is Uranus the planet. After doing this workout I think it helped expanded my creative thought process and I deffinetly think it’s a very useful exercise.

Facing the Fear

Have you ever worked really hard for something, and still was scared that you would fail well if so we have that in common. My fear is failing, or not achieving in what I have worked very hard for. When I say I fear failing I’m referring to school assignments but also on the field. As life goes on and the chance of failing is always in site I try to avoid it by doing little things these little things can help you too! The things I do before I go into anything is 1) build my confidence up. By this I actually mean that I tell myself, I’m the best I can do this. All it takes is a few words to build up your self-confidence. 2) I go into everything with a good attitude, doesn't matter what the situation maybe you forgot to study the night before a test. Don't be negative about it though although you screwed up you still can pull off passing just be positive. I'm not saying you shouldn't study that's an awful thing to do. What you should do is study but if you still are worried of failing you shouldn't you should believe no matter what you can pass. The third step takes the most time but if you can do the third then you won’t ever fear failing again. 3) Never doubt yourself. If you can go into something with no doubt, then you have gotten over the fear of failing.

campus safari

This week for my campus safari I went to a work shop. The work shop was about how to be sucessful at taking notes. I believe I learned alot from this hour work shop. we learned strategies of what to do for certain types of notes. We also were taught that the old saying," If you sit in the back of the class your not going to learn." is not true because now in days its all about feeling comfortable where you are in the class and finding the spot where you will be less distracted. It's all personal preference. Another thing I learned was how to take actual notes because theres different way which i never knew. I found this very interesting. I am happy I went to this because I truely feel it was helpful.

Video project 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V9Guk7RgccY&feature=youtu.be

Here is the link to my video project.

As i reflect upon my video I feel I have improved a lot since my last project. As I look at the two projects I can see myself getting a letter grade or better on this one. Some things I did differently that would enhance my grade is I put music in it and more information as well as a clear opening and conclusion to the topic. The topic I choose was Athletics at southern and I feel it gives a great perspective of how athletes feel about there program and the future of it. I hope you enjoy the video!

Campus Safari

Last week i met with my inquiry Advisor ( you) for my first ever advisement appointment in college history. It was quite exciting to start to puzzle together my future as I began to discuss what classes i will be taking for next semester. As we continued to talk we realised that I will also be meeting with my major advisor which is Athletic training. After we talked this over we came to conclusion that i'm best off with him leading me in the right direction to which classes I should take and how they will be benefitial for me and the becomming of an Athletic trainer. Although that appointment is next week I still felt that this appointment made me feel alot more comfortable as of where im heading in the future because second semster is right around the corner.

The Creative Habit 1-3

Although the chapters are a little lengthy I found what she has been saying very interesting. Everything so far that she has said I have found interesting starting with how being creative isn't the easiest thing to do. I found it very interesting that she has basically described the process of creativity which I strongly agree with. I also like what she had to say about rituals I can really relate to believe rituals because I have a ritual every time I kick a football. I do the same thing not that I know it’s going to work but the thought that I’m going to make it happen because I am comfortable due to my ritual before I kick. I definitely found chapter two the most inspiring and relatable because I feel that rituals are very important.  During our class discussion I would definitely like to talk about creative thinking because I feel she was very opinionated on the whole creativity thing which I feel would be would start a good discussion in class. I would be very interested to see what people have to say about that chapter because of her theory of how basically everything happens because of creative thinking.

midterm grades

As midterm grades start to show up I realize I need to step up next semester. As of right now every midterm I have gotten back has been either a C-, a  C or C+  which is alright by me but not by my parents and my parents know me well enough to say that I should be getting B’s or higher. This makes me believe that I can do that therefore I will be trying much harder next semester to prove to them and myself that I am capable of getting the grades that they believe I can get. Performance wise for this semester I feel that I have been putting in a solid amount of effort but I definitely am not giving it my all which is why my grades are what they are.

The Rain Column

AS I walk through campus every day I pass by this giant piece of art work that lies in front of Engleman hall. I have always wondered what it is and getting this blog assignment encouraged me to find out more about it and what it really is. Well to begin, it’s called the Rain Column. This piece of art was designed by an artist named Mikyoung Kim. It is made of stainless steel which makes it almost impossible to get destroyed. What I like so much about this piece is that it is so strange and always makes me wonder what it is and I like pieces of art like that because sometimes it gives you the ability to think beyond just one specific thing. What I also know is I’m not the only one who thinks that. Whenever I ask people what they think it is, they either come up with a bizarre answer or are just clueless. The point of this piece is not only for show but it also has a role on campus. During a rain fall it captures the rain which can be used to measure how much rain we have had during the rain storm. It also shows a cool reflection in the captured water which gives it a cool look. After investigating and finding out more about this piece of art on campus I feel that I can know share the knowledge with people that also wondered what it is and the point of it.

Health Center

This past week I caught an awful sickness so I went to the health center. I later on remembered that going to the health center is a campus safari item. After struggling with a terrible cold I decided it was time to go to the health center hoping they would have a cure for me. When I stepped in I was asked to fill out a paper and some information about me along with my insurance. After this they asked me to fill out a sheet with what symptoms I was having. Once this was done the nurse at the desk gave a call into the doctor. The doctor told her he will take me in the next day at 8:25. After hearing this I was so happy to think that I will soon be better. the next day I woke up and headed over for my appointment after doing a bunch of tests he gave me some medicine called amoxicillin and robitussin and said "if you don’t feel better after taking this medicine for a week come back and see me." lucky enough I was feeling much better by the second day of taking it. I would have never known how helpful the health center could actually be for health and getting a campus safari item out of the way.

Take a break

This week for my blog assignment I choose to go and watch my two best friend’s flag football game. This was very stress reliving. It was really nice to go hang out with them on the sideline and see them play for once. With midterms going on and always being so busy with football and studying I never really have time to hang out with them so it felt really good to be hanging out and not worrying about my studies and my own football for once. Seeing them have a good time at college made me happy because I know it’s not always easy to get involved and meet other people but they seem to be doing just fine with both of those and having a great time at school to say the least. Taking some time off from midterm studying showed me that I really should do this more often not just this one time. After going out and having some fun with my best friends it showed me that I should do things like that more often and taking time off from studying once in a while isn’t a bad thing, it actually is a good thing to do because it takes a lot of stress off of you.

You must Believe to Achieve

At the end of summer I actually decided to write a list of goals I had for this semester I brought the list to school with me and look at it every weekend. I made two lists football and school goals. Unfortunately as the semester carried on I came to realize none of the goals I set had been reached and it’s actually started to really affect me in a bad way. As in feeling like giving up which has made things really hard for me. Some goals I had was getting at least a 3.0 or higher for the semester even though I haven’t gotten many grades back I don’t think I’m close to that. It’s not that I’m not putting in the effort because I am it’s more of me not knowing what’s due and what has to be done by a certain time. That’s what kills me. It’s tough not being told the homework assignments every night like in high school I personally think that’s the hardest thing for me is not knowing what’s due and when its due. The way im going to deal with these goals is carrying them on to next semester. Some times it’s good to make new goals but other times it’s good to keep the same ones. You’re not always going to achieve your goals the first time and the biggest thing is not giving up on them which is why I plan on keeping the same goals for the next semester. I believe that you should never let a goal slip away from you if you don’t achieve it the first time there’s always the next time and that how I plan on going into this second semester. Even if I don’t achieve the goals second semester it’s ok as long as there’s improvement from the first semester and eventually as I keep improving I will end up achieving the goals and once I achieve a goal it will feel great!

Pep Rally

This Thursday for my campus safari I attended the Pep Rally at the Moore Field House. It was quite the experience. They announced all the sports teams which was really cool because the football team was called out and we all walked out and some of the guys danced. Through out the Pep Rally they had the step team go out, and the dance team. Although these dance teams were very entertaining I found the most entertainment when each team had a player go out on the court and they had a dance off. This dance off was awesome I have never seen kids have such talented dance moves. Jay Holt a player on the football team easily had the best moves he ended up winning the entire dance off after ending his dance with a split causing him to tear his entire pants right in half. After his wardrobe malfunction was taken care of he was announced the winner and was gifted with a brand new Xbox 360. After all the teams were announced and the raffle was finished the Pep rally had come to an end.

Only you can hoose what you fail and what you dont

As I continue to read the mindset book failure continues to stay around within the reading. It is involved with both mindsets fixed and growth mindset and how it works with in each of them. The difference between the two is with growth mindset if you fail you’re more likely to keep trying and not give up. With fixed mindset you’re usually the one to stop trying and face the fact you just can’t do it like a dead end for example. For me I believe I have both mindsets depending on what the situation is. An example would be football and kicking. Kicking is not easy it might look it but it’s not. I have had many off days and have missed quite a few kicks and had a few bad kicks in my day but it has yet to stop me. Having bad days with kicking is what motivates me to do better and basically ignites a little man in my mind saying “hey this is a test to see if you can overcome this and get better from it”. Believe it or not it works for football and bad day for me isn’t a good thing but it helps me realize that there’s always room to get better and never give up. This is the growth mind set. An example of me also having the fixed mind set would be during a math problem. Math is very difficult for me I tend to give up a lot when I don’t understand something which is a very bad trait. During home work when there’s a problem I don’t understand I tend to just give up and face the fact I’ll never be able to do it. I do this sometimes even with entire assignments which is very bad because it affects my grade. It’s weird because as much as I don’t want to skip it and try to accomplish it, it’s almost as if my brain just shuts down and tells me to just stop you have no chance. So in my case of failure I think I carry both mindsets.

Expanding the Horizon

Something I’ve recently done that was outside of my comfort zone was I went to a frozen yogurt place. This was outside of my comfort zone because I normally don’t like yogurt but I was forced to try it. The place I went to was in Hamden called Froyo World. It happened to be amazing! The frozen yogurt is nothing like yogurt, it was more like soft serve ice cream which I love so obviously I loved the frozen yogurt. The coolest thing about frozen yogurt is there are tons of flavors and toppings to add. I choose snicker doodle froyo and put a giant assortment of toppings on it. I was a little worried I was going to over kill it with the topping but it turned out delicious. A few topping I put on it was marshmallows, graham crackers, chocolate chips and white chocolate chips and topped it off with chocolate syrup. Once I devoured my masterpiece of frozen yogurt I was happy to admit that the new thing I tried was something that I will be having a lot more often. Doing something that I wasn’t all for and went out of my comfort zone for was well worth it. This taught me that trying new things and expanding my horizons is something I should do more often because you never know what you can get out of it. Most of the time leaving your comfort zone is a good thing and it shows by my situation of trying frozen yogurt. By the way if you have not tried frozen yogurt yet I highly recommend you do but be careful its dangerously good.

Growth mindset vs Fixed mindset. What are you?!

The main argument of the book so far is whats the difference between growths mindset and fixed mindset. Personally I don’t really care about this argument but since the title of the book is called Mindset the argument seems pretty valid to me. Yesterday in class we discussed these two mindsets and debated on what the two meant , which was nature and nurture along with what type of motivation would they qualify as, intrinsic or extrinsic. AS a class we first defined these two mindsets in our own words. Growth mind set is the belief that basic qualities are things you can cultivate through effort. In other word you are willing to learn new things and take on challenges. Growth mind set is intrinsic motivation and more of nurture. After going over growth mindset we did the same with fixed mindset. We came to conclusion that fixed mindset is the belief that you have a fixed amount of ability and intelligence. Basically saying that what you know already is all you need to know basically limiting yourself to things and not expanding your own knowledge. Fixed mindset is an extrinsic motivation and  is a gene that you are born with. Some people can be one or the other and sometimes people can be both depending on how their mind works . Personally I think I have a growth mindset. I believe that if I work on things I can gain growth in them and get better as time goes on I am not one to give up and I have learned to be this by other I look up too.

Time Managment Video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FspQrw07p7w&feature=g-upl

After completing my video project i believe it came out very good. I put in over 4 hours of work into it and i think the finished product came out great.Through out the time given i think i manged my time very well once the assignment was assigned i spent the first day deciding on what i wanted to base my project on and how i would ask my questions. After taking time to figure all that out i started interviewing random people, two staff members that are a part of SCSU three freshman students and one professor. Once i did all the planning and interviewing i started constructing my video. Due to my planning i feel this all worked out very well, the video is very clear informative and gets straight to the point which i feel is most important. After completing the project it is easy to come up with a conclusion to how all people had similar responses to the questions and helped me gained knowledge as well on how even though people have similar responses they also have different ways of putting it  which i think is the best part of this video.

Time Is Money. How will you handle it?

This Monday I started putting time and thought into my video project. It took me a while until I figured out what I wanted to do as a topic and then the light bulb switched on. What’s a better topic then time management? Everyone has their troubles with time management in college and everyone has their own way of describing these problems as well as how they plan to solve these problems. After I figured out my topic I put some thought into what questions im going to ask my interviewees and I came with three questions that I believe will get the perfect amount of info on the main topic. The three questions are: 1) How is managing your time different from high school to college? 2) What do you spend most of your day doing? 3) What would you do differently to be more productive with your time?. I feel that these questions are important to not just ask freshman but others as well. Freshman, staff, and CCs can all answer these three questions and all have various responses to them which is why these three questions are perfect. In result, all of the interviewees having different responses will make the video more interesting. My plan is that everyone will have very different responses which will help trigger people to keep interest in the video.

Eat,Sleep,Football,Study

Throughout my normal week I usually spend 5 hours plus on school work. I am mandated due to football to get at least 5 hours of study hall a week which I happen to like because I am able to complete the majority of my home work for the entire week in those 5 hours. The time I put into school doesn’t compare to the hours I put into resting and eating before practice which is kind of funny but it does not surprise me at all because I believe in order to get important things done such as school work you need to have a well, rested and full stomach so that you are functioning at your body’s full capability. The most hours of my week without a question go to football. Football is my life basically if you do the math it easily takes up over 20 hours a week. I don’t hate that it does this but it does give me trouble with being able to complete other things. Luckily I have learned to manage my schedule it a proper manner resulting with me being able to get everything done even though football does take up most of my time in college. Once, this semester is over that will mean that football is over. This results in me having a very different lifestyle for second semester. This means there will be other things that will become scheduled into my life such as activities during the day that don’t involve school and other fun things. At first it will be hard to manage my schedule since it won’t revolve around football but after the first few weeks I think I will get a grip on it and after all college is about learning how to adjust to different things.

The club fair

This past week I took a walk through the club fair. I was quite surprised when I attended this because I never imagined there to be over 60 clubs that any southern student can join. It was very fascinating to see all the different clubs you can join starting with the radio club  if you’re a fan of socializing over the radio or maybe you find interest in sports and want to try out rugby which is a very physical and competitive club sport. Personally I was most interested in the club sports such as hockey soccer flag football and even rugby. Knowing me I probably wont join any of these since I already play football for the school but id like to attend some of these club events because they sound pretty intense definitely the hockey games during the winter season.

A's only please

After searching the side bar for a solid 15 minutes I finally found a few blogs that I think deserve an A. The name of the first blogger that I feel deserves an A is Bethany Castellano who wrote about what she has learned in her first few weeks of college. I feel that this blog deserves an A because it grabbed my attention with the tittle and the blog was well written and straight to the point. She hit every question you asked in your blog and made it into her own style as she responded to them. Another strong point was how she related back to her life before college and how she had to change her ways from highschool life to her new college life style.
The second blog that I found that I feel deserves an A is Gabriella DiPretas. She talked about the tips to being a successful student in school. Her tips were to not procrastinate and manage your time wisely. She did a great job explaining why these two tips are very important in order to be a successful student in college. She deserved an A for this because she did a great job explaining how to not procrastinate and reasons why not too. She also did a great job on explaining how to manage your time wisely and how she’s had to change how she managed her time from high school life to college life. Another reason I feel she deserves an A is how she structured her blog her blog is very well written and shows she put a lot of time thinking of what to write and making it interesting enough that someone would want to read it. It’s not too long but gets straight to the point and I feel that that’s one of the biggest things with blogs. Make it short but sweet.

"I just wanna be, I just wanna be successful" - Drake

The biggest tip I have gotten, that has affected me the most is definitely to not procrastinate in college. This tip has affected me because I now know in order to be successful in college I must get my work done on time and not save it for the last minute. It’s good to get assignments done the day you get them because in college you’re always busy and there’s always things going on in your schedule; classes, sports, meeting and of course the non-school related activities. A good way to avoid procrastinating is get an agenda and write your assignments in it and complete the work once you are done for the day with your classes. An agenda is very benefitial because not only does it help you not procrastinate but it helps you by being organized and knowing what you have to get done. Some aspects that I have been informed about that aren’t the greatest are going to class early or staying after to ask specific questions. This doesn’t work very well because most teachers are very busy and either have classes before the class and aren’t there in time to ask specific questions, or are in a rush to get to their next class so don’t have time to answer the specific question. This has been a problem for me because there is one class where my teacher just makes no sense and she hasn’t been sending me emails so it’s causing me some troubles. In order for me to continue following my goals I will have to find other ways to get info and responses on my questions. In order to do this I will have to ask friends after class and hope that they have an answer and can help lead me in the right direction. Also not procrastinating will help me succeed in school because my home work will be completed on time and I won’t have to be worried about saving things for the last minute which is why I bought my self an agenda.

Motivation and Determination is the Root to Success

Basically in this write up it talked about the theory of mastering anything if you put in 10,000 hours into it. I have mixed feelings about this theory because there are some people that are just born with natural talent for example tiger woods. He started playing golf as soon as he began to walk at the age of 5 he was already in the golfers digest magazine. That’s incredible and we all know a kid that young does not have the attention span to put in 10000 hours into anything. Although this is where my mixed feeling come in because I do believe that if anyone dedicates there time and effort into something for 10000 hours I do believe you can master whatever you are putting all your heart and desire into mastering. I have a great friend who was always just the average athlete and worked every day. He would put in the extra hours after practice and even on the weekends ever since he was in middle school to get better. As he worked on speed and strength he began to excel in his position which was running back. He ended up starting all four years in high school as the running back and defensive back because of his hard work and extra hours of training. His name is forever known in our high school for breaking all records possible. He is now playing at a very well-known D1 school called UConn. Where he plays special teams and is second string running back.  All because of the hard work and extra hours of work he put in during the summer and after practice. So at the end of the day yes I do believe that if you put in the right amount of time into something that you want to master it can happen. It’s all about how bad you want it and how much you are willing to work for it.

the overcoming of dificulties

There have been many obstacles and situations that I have had to overcome through out my life but I think the biggest one I had to overcome was facing the fact that my knee that I had two surgeries on was never going to be the same. After the first knee surgery I wasn’t really sure what was going to happen it obviously still killed and I couldn’t tolerate the pain anymore so that’s when the doctor told me your never going to  feel the same again but we can try and make it a little more comforting for you by cleaning it out. That’s how surgery two came along. Although this second surgery helped me get rid of some of the pain I still wasn’t the same. I lost a lot of athleticism and just wasn’t the same guy I once was when it came to athletics. Facing the fact that I lost a lot of the athletic talent I once had was hard but that’s when I really started just focusing on my main talent which was kicking.  It wasn’t easy for me to get that my knee was never going to be 100%, but as months went on I mentally grew stronger and learned how to block the pain out. None of this stuff is easy to do just like handling college. College is big change in your lifestyle you have to learn how to handle things way differently then you might have had to in highschool. For example home work in highschool you might have not even had to put any effort in your work to succeed but college is totally different you need to put effort in if you want to earn the grades you want. In order to do this you have to manage your time by studying some times that means even passing up on a party but that’s college life for you. Your going to be faced with tough decisions all the time and its up to you how to handle these situations in order to be successful.  At the end of the day you have to overcome the pressure to do the fun things so at the end of the day your successful and they are not because you put in the extra time to get that grade that you wanted.

The football game SCSU vs Stonehill

After A long ride to Stonehill College the football team got off the bus and was ready to get the win. Right from the start the game was intense both teams kept on being forced to punt as the game continued to play on Stonehill ended the half at 3 to 0. Our defense was playing great but so was Stonehill’s. Try after try we failed to put points on the board. Once we left the locker room after half time we came out with the same attitude as we did getting off the bus feigning to get the Win. Unfortunately it didn’t happen. We ended up losing 13 to 0 but we played a great game. Next week we face Saint Agustine at home and hope to capture our first win of the season.

making things intersting

The other blogs I looked at i liked but that’s most likely because I looked up blogs that would interest me such as sports blogs. When I looked at these sports blogs I found them more interesting than the blogs the class and I have written. Once we start writing blogs without having as much directions I feel that they will become more interesting to read and also make writing them more fun. Although the sports blogs I looked at were a lot more entertaining and interesting to me some could be lengthy I feel that if you cand find a way to create a blog post with around 300 words but be able to get all that you have to say in it, then it will be a lot easier to read and more people will want to read it. Having to lengthy of a blog will send the viewer away fast even if it is an interesting topic because I feel a blog should be short but contain enough info and interesting stuff to make the viewer enjoy it within a quick time of reading it. What also grabs a viewer is the layout of the blog. Does it have a cool background are there pictures in it. Little things like that can get the viewer more interested. Some things I’d like to start doing to my blog posts once I get more used to it is those little things, like have picture that go with the topic and make the viewer more likely to read it. Sometimes a viewer will be more likely to read your post if you have something interesting to look at while reading. In my opinion once you start writing blogs with fewer instructions they will get easier because you won’t have to follow each question being asked in the post. I feel that once Saturday comes and I get to write about a school topic I will be more likely to excel and have a more interesting post because I am much better at writing freely without so many instructions.

Setting the Tone for This Semester

College for me is the next step in my life to lead me in the right direction of having a bright future with a sucessful job, as i plan to become Atheletic trrainer. Going to college is whats going to help me learn a new life style of working and becoming a profesional at what i wanna be. Id hope that i will achieve and be academically sucessful in the class room as well as learning new things and meeting new people along the way throughout my 4 years at southern. Ive been told college is not going to be easy i am going to actually have to work for my grades and put in the time and effort but i believe that i am ready to do this. i was always told to put in 110% in anything i do if i want to be sucessful and i plan on doing that in my classes studying as well as in my sport football. As the year goes on things will continue to get harder in the classes and outside the classes. There will be plenty of oppurtunity to go to clubs and partys instead of studying or doing homework but one thing i am really trying to do well with is my time management. That doesnt mean im not going to attend those festivities but along with those im going to have to balance the class work and studys  as well as football. my goal for this semester is to get a 3.0 or higher and thats not going to be easy as i have already found out from the first week of college, but by staying focused on what important to me which is getting my degree and having a bright future i think ill be able to achieve that as long as i keep everything well balanced.
